WebEx is a collaborative software we use in live classes. It allows the student to see computer information real time, as if they were in the classroom.
WebEx link: http://mstedu.webex.com
We will be sending one-way audio (VoIP) out over Webex during class-time, which will allow you only to listen to class. Some of our rooms are updated for two way VOIP into the classroom, which allows you to use the WebEx Integrated VoIP feature to speak during class. Those are Library G-11 (573-341-6490), Library G-14 (573-341-7673), Civil 213 (573-341-6600) and Engineering Management 103 (573-341-6643). The rest of our rooms should be two way VoIP capable by the end of summer 2008.
Please remember that
during class you will still have to dial into the phone conference to ask
the instructor any questions if your class is not in one of the rooms listed
above. You can also use a VoIP
system such as SKYPE to dial into our phone conferencing system. Instructions
for this are found in the FAQ's in the left navigation bar. Our default
password for logging into a WebEx meeting is "123456".
You won't need a WebEx account in order to attend your
classes. To make sure your computer is set up properly for WebEx, go to
http://mstedu.webex.com. Click on
Setup / Meeting Manager in the left navigation bar. Follow the instructions to
set up your system for Webex. WebEx player is part of this download,
you should be able to play archived WebEx files. If you have problems,
contact vcchelp@mst.edu or
WebEx support .
Click on this link for detailed information as well as how to login to your class:
Showing videos:
There are two ways to show videos over WebEx. 1) We can encode your videos ahead of time to Windows media. We then place them on our server. In the WebEx meeting, you share "Web Content" and the video file is pushed out to all participants. 2) You will need an account if you plan to show a presentation with audio/video embedded. With that account, you can download the WebEx Communications Toolkit. And when properly installed, a toolbar for it will appear when you open PowerPoint. You must save your file as a .ucf file. Please contact vcchelp@mst.edu for account setup. And view the detailed "WebEx Instructions" above on how to download the toolkit.
Homework
projects:
You can also use WebEx for your class projects. The
audio portion will be carried over VOIP or WebEx teleconferencing. For
information required to set up WebEx / teleconferencing for homework or student
projects, click here
.
