Student participation

Students can participate in your class in many ways.

We have phone conferencing into the classroom.  Students can ask questions and respond to yours as well.  They really enjoy this interaction, and they feel as if they are part of the class.  You and your students can access the phone conferencing number for your class on our web site under "Class Schedules".

A control room number is also listed there.  Students or professors teaching from off-campus should call this number during our live class, if they are experiencing any problems.

We also post the live links, intro links and link to your homepage on this page as well.

You can also post the live and archived links of our media for your class on your web site or Blackboard location.  This way the student can view the material where you post your Powerpoint and class materials for their access.  Posting the links in Blackboard gives you an extra level of password protection.  We also now have a server link you can post on your web page or in your Blackboard location that displays all the archived class files http://vcc.mst.edu/classarchives/ . We have a public and secure end to our servers, the secure allowing Missouri S&T students only.

Your distance students study in a variety of ways.

There are those that attend live and enjoy the interaction with the class.  They do this by watching our live streams, and participating over the phone conference.  Realize there is a minimum of a 40 second delay in the live streams, so give them time to respond.

We also offer software that allows collaboration between you and your students without the streaming media delay, called WebEx.  You are given an account by us.  You can upload course material when you arrive for class.  The students have really enjoyed this real time, without delay, interaction.

These distance students travel a lot as well as juggling a full time job, etc., so they are also able to study after the live class is finished by accessing the archived files of your class or by downloading those files to their computers and watching class at their convenience.  Allowing class to be downloaded is only by permission of the professor, and it is password protected.

Lastly, having professionals interact with your in class students can be a very fruitful collaboration.
