Professor Pre-Semester Check List
Welcome to Global Learning! In preparation for your distance education class you will need to closely review and complete the following. If you have any problems, we are only a phone call away - 573-341-4526, or email us at vcchelp@mst.edu.
We are here to help.
There will be a Primary Producer in charge of your class. You should receive an email from them before the start of the semester. If they are not available when you need help, ask to speak with any of our Video Production Specialists. Any of them will be glad to help you.
Record a 3-5 minute introduction to your class. We can make this generic, so you can reuse it when needed. The intro is an excellent marketing tool for individual courses and also for the entire degree or certificate program. You can review Intro videos other instructors have produced to get an idea of what’s needed. When making your PowerPoint slides, please avoid including any dates. In this way, you can use your intro over and over each semester. Please contact us as soon as possible to schedule a time to produce your Intro.
We link to your email, live stream links, WebEx, Blackboard, intro links, phone conference and control room numbers on our web site http://vcc.mst.edu/ under “Watch Class Live”. All archived files are accessible from our server http://vcc.mst.edu/classarchives/ . You can post the URL’s for your intro, live and archived media files on your web site or Blackboard location or you can link to our web site where we post all these links for you. If you choose to write and post them yourself, please contact us for current information.
Security and password protection: Blackboard Administration makes “vccsb” a Teaching Assistant (TA) in Blackboard. If you wish to combine sections of your class, go to the Blackboard customization utility at: https://itweb.mst.edu/~bbfocus and don’t forget to make your class “available” in Blackboard.
Class production guidelines: We recommend you link to http://vcc.mst.edu on your class web site or Blackboard location or direct your students to the VCC tab in Blackboard. Pertinent class production information for your students is located under “Students” on our web site. Located under “Professors” in left navigation bar is specific information developed for you, including a standard MST PowerPoint template. Download the PowerPoint template for your lecture background at http://vcc.mst.edu/professors/powerpoint-templates.html . Keep information on first slide current for each lecture (contains your class number, title, your name and lecture topic), this is very important information to maintain, and enhances the usefulness of your DVD master set, which you receive at the end of the semester. Also located there is a Checklist with information for presentation enhancement: http://vcc.mst.edu/professors/checklist/index.html
Special computer software needs: Please submit a ticket to IT https://help.mst.edu/ss_mst/login_raremedy.jsp to have your special software needs loaded onto distance classroom computers and remote access computers for you distance students to use http://vcc.mst.edu/stus/itinfo.html .
WebEx collaborative software: We set this up for you. Allows students to view and participate in your computer presentation. They can also use this for their project collaborations.
The best way to communicate to us via email , any concerns you have with your class production is to use our listserv vcchelp@mst.edu .
Please provide a class syllabus to the VCC staff so that we can be apprised of class cancellations, exams, student presentations, etc.
If the dates of exams, presentations, etc. change, please notify the VCC staff at: vcchelp@mst.edu, or call the VCC at 4526 . We monitor each class we produce, however we sometimes miss announcements given to the students during class time. Also, please be sure to contact us concerning problems/satisfaction with our production of your class.
